For anyone who doesn't know, I am not a fan of anime. Despite what was said in the past, I am not part of the anime or mafia clique. It may seem odd that I would listen to lefty because we clash often with our opinions on the board but I respect and like the guy and I hope he feels the same. Anyway, he suggested about a year ago that I watch this anime because it caters to just about anyone, regardless of their feelings towards anime in general. Well, I finally got down to it and maybe I will make this a watchthrough topic of sorts. I will give a writeup from the first episode in a bit. In the meantime, I looked up and they have 13 episodes and 3 OVAs. What is an OVA and did I mess up by not watching them first?

The intro suggested that there will be a lot of characters and most, if not all, made an appearance in the episode. I feel like I should look at that intro over and over until I can correctly put names and faces together or I am probably going to have a hard time understanding everything as the show goes on.
Regarding the plot, I understand very little, but that's to be expected after watching one episode. What I do understand is: - The beginning takes places decades after the events of the story and older gentlemen discreetly said that he was involved with the events of the past - Mafia's main priority is this Dallas dude, who according to his wife (?) is apparently missing - This gigantic group of people, including some who were pumped full of lead and lived, are going to board this train for reasons I don't know - A few sections appear to occur after the train ride and **** went down
Well, there's some sort of supernatural element here. I hope that it is implemented well because it is probably the main focal point of the story and supernatural stories can easily be screwed up.
Overall, I liked it. Emotions weren't over-the-top or anything and if that is a strong indication of what's to come, I don't think that I will cringe much like I do for most anime series that I have seen

Well, here is a list of what I have seen, some all of the episodes and some only around 10, that I either did not like or felt indifferent about:
- Dragon Ball - Dragon Ball Z (all the way through the Cell stuff) - Pokemon (first season or whatever had to do with R/B/Y) - Digimon (the seasons that dealt with Tai and the gang and then with Tai's sister and the gang) - Bleach (watched this the least out of them all, but it was all just pretty stupid) - Eureka Seven - Yu Yu Hakusho - Rurouni Kenshin - Outlaw Star - Star Ocean EX
I know there are more, but I can only picture them and don't really have a name that sticks out that I can research. Some of the worst fall under this category

Ok, maybe some of you will know what series I am thinking of as I describe them in a pretty poor manner:
- A wolf-man, some little punk ass fox girl, a moody black-haired girl, some other black-haired girl who is cold and some dude who can summon a vortex at will. This one sucked
- A guy who rides a motorcycle lives with relatives and finds a naked girl in a tree and his best friend who supports his sister has the same thing happen to him. This is an absolutely disgusting series because it sexualizes pre-teens and was awful in every facet. I highly doubt I finished this one
- Some air pirate finds a girl in a coffin and I honestly don't remember jack **** about the plot other than the kid making the great mistake of giving up being an air pirate and a group of a small girl with a beret, a guy with blond hair, and some black chick who was like a slave to the blond haired guy was always hungry
- Some old, obese man took custody of a small girl after her father was killed and they went, along with two guys, to get his treasure back but some android woman with her android underling girls stand in the way and this cop loved, but didn't realize it, the old obese man because he surfed on a really high wave. Really?
Maybe I can think of some more later on

pjbasis posted... You didn't like Yu Yu or Kenshin? Guess you're not a Shounen guy...
Well there were parts that I did like.
For Yu Yu, I liked the dimwitted red haired guy, the three-eyed black haired guy, and the other red-haired guy who had a whip. The main character was awful and only got worse as the series went on. I did really like the portion that dealt with a tournament in another dimension
For Kenshin, I liked the main character and the tall guy with humongous sword. I also liked the part that dealt with the guy who was burnt badly and was wrapped in bandages. He was a good villain and that entire section was pretty entertaining. It really fell off the map once I had to hear that teenager who ran the dojo whine and whine about Kenshin and ****

Coyote Ragtime Show Literally just watched this
It wasn't that bad as long as you don't take it seriously! But it wasn't that good either.
- White haired boy has a fragile best friend and both get transported to another dimension. The fragile guy changes his personality dramatically about 5 times while the white haired boy is not open. There is a lot of death in this one. Also, battles are done by summoning things out of orbs on a weapon. A few character names were Noah and Mickey I think
- A guy with an eye patch rescues a small girl, Eve I think, who isn't human and some other kid tags along and wears a collar because the girl doesn't trust her. Many characters have numbers because they belong to a criminal organization I think and the kid with the collar had a number. He wants revenge for some girl being murdered. The plot was pretty convoluted

I can add to this one. The main villain is pretty much a god because nothing seems to kill him. Also, the wolf-man has a brother that he isn't on good terms with. Some woman with a bow does not like the wolf-man, and there are some episodes that take place in a city that is not in the same world as most of what I have seen

A lot of character comments: - Miria is kind of a basket case and Issac is always full of hot air. That combo means that they will likely provide a lot of funny and annoying scenes. I do appreciate them more after their interaction with the following character - Not really liking this Jacuzzi character for obvious reasons and don't need to touch base on them - Ladd is one crazy son of a ***** and I can't tell if Lua is like a hostage of sorts or what, given her reactions to the bloody thirsty group she is with. - Poor retired conductor, I hope that even though you floating in the sewers is a sign that you are dead, I hope the opposite is the case
**** got real at the end but that brings up a lot of questions as more and more parties entered the fray as the episode went on. The ending just makes it all the more confusing as people are saying some pretty cryptic stuff. I am starting to think that "The Item" and "The Bomb" are the same thing but given all the different factions that seem to be here, maybe there are multiple items of interest on The *****foot, which I can't help but smirk after hearing its name.
Speaking of factions, this is what I think the groups are so far on the train: - Men in white - Men in black + older of the two conductors - Child who hung out with the senator's daughter - Jacuzzi, Nice, bartender, chef + those two large dudes - Woman that got like 5 seconds of screentime while the train was still boarding - Miria and Issac
Based on the stuff with Miria and Issac at the beginning, a few thoughts come to mind - Ennis is an ally of sorts with Miria and Issac so all of those people with her in the first episode may very likely be on their side - Ennis is not human, so Miria and Issac may not be human as well
Overall, I am intrigued by many factors, but the frequent over-the-top emotions that I do not care for have crept in at times. I don't feel as lost and confused as some of the other users have said after stopping after a few episodes, but only time will tell

I wouldn't like anime either if I watched those show :\/
The other shows that I describe also fall under the did not like/felt indifferent about category. I always have an issue with my writeup lengths. I don't want to make them super long, but I also don't want to just pass over things just to artificially shorten. I will try my best to not talk as much though.
As for you LtM, I never said that I was going to limit myself to 1-2 episodes every day. I just said that I will probably only watch that many today. There will probably be days where I watch none, or maybe even 3-4. We'll just see

The show is confusing at times because there are 3 timelines being shown. How everybody met, the train stuff, and the search for Dallas. Starts slow but its great once they introduce Claire.

Awful characters, at least those who were most central to the plot. Some of the crew members were pretty cool, but they weren't main characters. Holland, dumbass kids, Eureka, pink-haired girl, villain, and bodyguard of pink-haired girl can go **** themselves. Talho and Renton weren't great either but they were at least tolerable from time to time
I also found it to be a series that had just a few good episodes and the rest ranged from mediocre to awful. I was only somewhat interested in the story, the mysterious girl who is of another race and harbors great secrets is just way overplayed and is almost never done well anyway, but it still managed to take a complete nosedive somewhere during the 30-40 episode mark and my interest just kept diminishing, but I still ended up finishing it
If I don't like a show's story or characters, there's no way that I will like it

I just looked back at my descriptions for series and all I can do is laugh at how horrible they sound when I don't know character names or events in their entirety

Well, that crazy Ladd guy is even crazier than before
That was absolutely disgusting what they did to that rat. At least it died on impact....wait, I guess I spoke too soon.....no I didn't
Ah, there's your large black woman. I was wondering when one would show up
That head ruffian that fought with the old man is probably going to be, or maybe already is, a major factor in all of this since I am guess that he took those vials
Oh Nick, don't bring a knife to a gun fight
I was hoping that things would start to make sense but instead, more was just added to pile of confusion. Maybe episode 4 changes that?

I watched the first ten episodes or so of Baccano about a year ago and never finished. I just can't bring myself to finish it. I had a good grip on what was going on I just couldn't stand the show's format of storytelling. Issac and Miria are the only reason I made it that far as they are the only characters I can say I liked. Everyone else was either uninteresting or irritating. Great opening though.
I think i watched like 4 episodes of Baccano! and it didn't grip me at all. I know its only 12 altogether so i should probably go back to it, but it felt very meh to me.
Huh. I don't really get complaints that it was confusing. I mean, it obviously was a little, but I thought it was a neat format, and it wasn't incomprehensible or anything.
Incidentally, it doesn't really make sense completely until episode 6 (IIRC).

This episode is a lot different than the rest because it really narrowed its focus to just a few things and nothing contained in them were confusing. The only thing that I think needs to be explained, which obviously will, is that creature at the end. Given that they showed Nice in a hurry, my initial feeling is that Jacuzzi is that creature.
--

I think that my initial monster theory is incorrect. Not only that but Jacuzzi is the head honcho for some gang?
Everything is really starting to come together now in regards to the events of the past. It is only a matter of time before everything becomes clear, so or I hope
What a dumbass goon. If you are standing still where a comrade mysteriously disappeared, you deserve to go out like that.
