Back in Disgaea 2 DHD, there are a couple of mystery rooms that had you ambushed (though you need to talk to them first), and no exit portal available, IIRC. Though if you beat them, you get a couple extra Item Levels.

Dunno if it's like this though.

I love Disgaea 4. 70 hours and counting!

i dunno, i was gaining levels and nice items and money so i figured i'd try again

Item world isn't terribly important if you haven't finished the story, unless you're powering up a dark rosary for Val or something, then I guess it's kinda nice.
You shouldn't have to grind too much for story purposes, unless things have changed wildly. (I'm only on chapter 5, but I haven't really had to grind at all.) Even if you do need to grind, a few runs of something like 5-2 should be more than enough.

one thing is, a lot of the mystery room characters have no equipment, and in actuality, roll over quite easily(They are a good source of levels early on when you are first starting the postgame grind, which includes getting some reasonable weapons).

Mind you, some of them are occasionally really strong and shouldnt be messed with.

btw, using a balanced team, I was able to get through all the main story aside from the final boss without any grinding(Or item worlding being the required 10). Only named characters I used were Valvatorez and Fenrich, for that matter. Though Fuka was used for throwing people occasionally.

magichange early on is great because it gives stats to your lower levelled allies and lets you level a monster all in one. fusion's great because it makes the base monster's skills more powerful and hit a larger area; I wouldn't really advise fusing until you get the party member after emizel, then say hi to the best grinding machine in the game until postgame stuff

to magichange a fused monster, you gotta defeat an enemy with a level 100 fused monster.. or defeat a level 100 yourself, dunno. you get a bill for giant magichange you can pass. pass it as fast as possible imo

it's ten times more useful than regular magichange because it makes the user's skills hit larger areas, allowing extremely easy powerlevelling

DLC Flonne is Fallen Angel Flonne
Other Flonne is Archangel Flonne

And you can't use both at the same time.

IIRC it's the same in D3 but I never played it since it seemed to be the weakest Disgaea of all and Mao is a horrible character (I still watched my friend play it).

In Disgaea Infinite, Flonne decided to apply for the ability to become an angel again for some unknown reasons, to the confusion of just about everybody.

Well, in previous Disgaeas, unlocking archers require a certain mastery in bows, but those are gone in D4 I believe.

Heart Cannon activates whenever any ally attacks an enemy within attack distance of the ally within the symbol. So as long as Fenrich's standing next to an enemy, every time an ally attacks that enemy, Fenrich will attack them again. It can happen multiple times a turn.

It can happen with your thief if he's in the symbol, too, but your thief has to be able to attack an enemy! And move cancelling doesn't work here for some reason argh.

during the main game, nah. it helps, but it's not necessary and the grinding's a pain. it'll increase the character's aptitudes (meaning more stats from items) and sometimes let them get new skills so it'll be worth it if it's a character you really like using

post game, when you can train like a boss, do it immediately

This seems to be the most active Disgaea topic on the board, so I'll just pop in here. >_>
I'm on chapter 7 and hooooly hell this game is way too great. It's seriously like a perfection of the formula, so much polish, love and spirit. Characters and music are fantastic too, though that's no surprise. (Well, it's kind of a surprise how well the characters hold up to the Disgaea 1 crew, I might actually like this lot better by the end of it all.)
