Mouse and keyboard on a couch doesn't work for gaming I'd say. I mean, I have my HDTV connected to my PC as a secondary monitor, so I could do that without a box... but that's no good.
Bring me consoles.

That's why I said it'd be an option.
Navigating through PSN/XBL via a controller is already immensely uncomfortable in comparison to a mouse and keyboard, jfyi.

i don't think that blt bbq acronym really applies here, I'm not a big fan of mousing without a good surface.
Of course I'm sure some people like it, and you do, but your kinda lack of getting other people's preferences here is a bit eeeh.
I like analog sticks, I like streamlining design for consoles since it's less precise than PC, and I like that. I'm not on board your steambox train, good sir!
I love editing this post, just one more bit. What this idea is is just xbox without what makes it a console, aka changing games a bit so they work well in the TV/controller setting, which isn't exactly the same as PC gaming. Simply putting PC gaming on the TV is, well, we can do that without an extra box and it's not really that revolutionary.
Um... I don't quite get your first point. What I said was that navigating the PSN Store/XBLA is already uncomfortable, so at worst the SteamBox interface wouldn't be worse, and it could be better.
I don't like analog sticks for FPS games. As someone who has played FPS games on PC, I think using analog sticks instead of a keyboard and mouse is an abomination of an idea and I really can't wrap my mind around people finding them tolerable, much less the lunatics claiming they are better.
Anyway, about your last paragraph, Valve would do this simply because there are "intelligent" consumers who think PC gaming is "more trouble than it's worth," but would otherwise play and love PC games. Apparently that has more chance to work than simply educating people that playing PC games on a big TV is just a couple cables away.

I've played both for a long time and it's not a problem, though I might share this opinion to an extent if I only used Dual Shocks. That probably comes across as some anti-Sony bit, but I assure you it is not.
And why are people that have a PC already "beyond hope"? Is there a benefit to the Steam Box that I am missing.
Would something like this even really work? Computer games constantly change with changing specs. What would keep this from being just another console that only plays games up to a certain point and how is that better than a PC.

Exactly! After all, that's what I voted. :P

If there's something we know about Valve, it's that we can rely on them to improve an already existing concept and/or offer something groundbreaking.

I *think* they would just provide specs, and third parties would put the console out. I think the concept also calls for the platform to be friendly to other forms of digital distribution ie Origin. So while it does have a "line in the sand" aspect, it would also be significantly cheaper. Are there obvious issues? yeah.
brilliant idea on valve's part but lets not kid ourselves, this is targeted at people who are too stupid to install a graphics card, just like all consoles are.
