Pretty amazing service. While you're a free member you get access to everything that a normal member has access to. That means that if you decide you really like a game, you can choose to keep it at a really low price, and they'll send you the case and manual in pristine condition free of charge. You also get to buy anything from them with free shipping.
I love Gamefly but they have such terrible customer service. I've had to use it four or five times now and it's always horrible. I've only had one thing solved anywhere near my satisfaction. I've also had an open spot for two weeks now with three games in my queue. So I just lost half a month of membership.
I guess I'm just getting fed up with them RIGHT NOW. I've been happy with the service (not customer service) up until recently. I hope I get out of this funk because I'm getting close to cancelling.
From: Weakupedia | #006 It should also be noted that I paid $28 to keep DW7 when it was still retailing for $60.
Also, Digi, what problems have you come across that require calling customer service?
Problems with promotional credits they gave, problems where they charged me twice for membership, problems where games never arrived and problems with debit cards used. Eight months into my membership they told me my card could no longer be used because it with a bank that was incompatible with their system. It was the card I started with. Other negatives include the fact that their billing and membership system is archaic - you can't change your name - it's always the name of the card you're using. They also refuse to move billing periods around, which basically every other company ever will do.
The one time they were helpful was when I sent the wrong game back by mistake, they got it back to me quickly. Shipping times are also very, very good and they do that thing where they send me a new game when the post office scans my return, before it ever gets back to them. That's cool. It's not all bad stuff, it's just lately I've been very upset with them after about a year or so of membership. The fact that the last three months has been horrifying with games, with almost nothing good in the way of non-downloadable games probably enforces my desire to close my account, though. I'm just not playing anything. But again, there are three games I do want to play that they just won't send me. After two weeks of having an open spot.
From: Weakupedia | #010 Plus, if you get lucky, you might get an email from them after you cancel asking you to try another month for $2.
Best $2 spent ever.
I've done this twice, but it was always free, not $2.
From: Menji76 | #012 How easy is it to cancel?
Hopefully I can just I turn off the auto-renew at the end of the trial right at the start. Please don't make me call them!
And will I have to have everything returned before the month is up?
If you cancel during a trial they'll send you a stern letter telling you to return the items or face charges. You still have like a week or two weeks though, I forget which. If you cancel at any other time they just tell you to please hurry up and return your stuff within a week or two. You can't turn off auto-renew, I believe you'd need to cancel the day before the charge date.
They also refuse to move billing periods around, which basically every other company ever will do.
Does this mean they will always charge at say, the end of the month?
And is it one month free from the moment I get it or just to the end of this month?
It should be from the moment you get it. My period is on the sixth of every month. I believe that's because I started on the sixth. So that's a positive. I just wish I could move it to the 15th without having to cancel, send everything back, and re-open a new account with a new user level (removing my discounts for having been there for a year).
you don't play enough games for a free month of rentals? there has to be at least one game you've had your eye on but have been too cheap to drop the cash for!
