so before i had a neighbor on the right with a yappy pug that sounded like it was getting murdered all day. and they move out.

now to my left i have some tenants that moved in with a couple big dogs that bark at ernie whenever he's trying to do his business in our yard.

yesterday my boyfriend was cooking for the week and had the back door open and this big ass dog just tries to walk into our house. he shooed the dog away and the dog ran and jumped back over the fence. then later the dog tried to do the same thing.

i'm telling you right now if this dog tries to attack ernie i will literally stab it in the head

I mean, you would be well within your legal right to attack a dog that is assaulting your dog on your property. But yeah, as the above poster said, I'd hassle the neighbor over and over to fix the fence.

You need to gradually build up so they don't realize what's happening, like putting a frog in a pot of water and then pouring lava on it.

People here are missing the point. It's asinine for people to criticize you for attacking a dog that is on your property and viciously attacking your dog. No sane person would argue against your right to defend yourself and your dog.

My point is that you should be taking the proactive solution by contacting the landlord and hassling them about it, since it is a completely legitimate concern. However, based on your posts here about the situation, you seem averse to doing that for some reason.

Actually, it wasn't obvious since you just said you'd kill the dog if it attacked Ernie, not, "I'll go talk to the neighbors this afternoon to inform them their dog is capable of jumping the fence, since they might not even know."

i suppose. i'm gonna talk to the neighbor and see if they won't just tie him up while he's back there so he won't jump over but they have a couple dogs so idk if they'll do it

this is what i think. that's why i'm gonna talk to them first. i doubt my landlord is gonna wanna put a new fence in on the shared property line when the people could just leash up their dog.

if they refuse to leash the dog and it keeps jumping over i'm gonna call animal control and have them seize it when it's in my yard and the owners can go pick it up. the inconvenience might be enough to make them keep their animal under control.

If the fence is being relied upon to prevent that, yes. Those relying on the fence and who are responsible for controlling the dog may choose to stop relying on the fence to perform this job if it's felt that fixing it is impractical, but fundamentally, the fence needs to be fixed if it is to continue performing its current job.

my dog doesn't go in the backyard unsupervised since he found that hole on the other side of the fence and got loose back in december.

that was really traumatic for me and even though we covered the hole with rocks i don't trust his little butt to not try to find a way out again

Not a terrible idea but I have seen many bitter feuds ramp up once animal control gets involved.

They are responsible for keeping their dog contained (or not leaving the dog unsupervised in an area it can get out of). Many dogs can jump or scale average fences.

well i mean what else can you do if they don't keep control of their animal and the landlord won't replace the fence? now obviously all that is worst case scenario. i'm sure the neighbors will (hopefully) be reasonable and just leash up their dog when it's back there but if nothing gets done and the dog keeps getting over i don't see any other option than to involve the authorities somehow.

Dont go for the head, they were bred for thick skulls. You need a breaker bar first to open its bite and if your goal is to kill go for the jugular with the knife for a quick clean kill.
