1. Flagged when go over their work / holiday visa, then a warrant issued for their arrest.
2. Arrested.
3. Several meetings with the appropriate government department.
4. Deported within a week or something.

I assume it's something like this. I was just curious. How long does it take for the person to be arrested, is it just a few days after them illegally staying in the country? Are you then basically persona non grata, and can never return? How long does a work visa last anyway? Is it just until you're unemployed, and then you can't legally stay there?

I wasn't deported, first of all. My visa application fell through and I had to leave before the bridging visa I was on expired and I became unlawful, which I did.

I don't know the extent to what happens when someone gets deported but one of the typical conditions is they're not allowed to enter back into that country for a significant period of time (think 3-10 years) and any future visa applications will be tough.

I thought a few people said you got deported. You didn't? So, are you going back there? I mean, you job, your fiance, and so on, are back there. I know you prefer Oz to the UK, and although I've never been to Oz, it may well be better. Sigh. Hot weather and lots of really nice beaches, and the good-looking girls.

I made a topic saying I was getting kicked out of the country and it was presumed that I meant deported. In reality it just meant that my right to stay in the country was expiring.
