Poll of the Day > Potders: Do you remember September 11, 2001?

At this point there are young adults that were too young at the time to remember it, and soon there will be adults who were not even born yet. That seems significant to me because it had such a major influence on our culture.

I'm also curious what the perspective is of those born after 2001, to constantly hear about it but for it to have been before your time.

Yeah

I was in third grade and had no idea what was really happening. But there was a PA announcement in school that basically said "turn on the TVs" - so they were on and we were all watching for a short time. Then school ended early and we got to go home.

Didn't really know what was going on, but hey, half day!

Yeah I was in gr4 I think? Got back from recess and they told us and we watched the news for a while. Being that young and Canadian it didn't really mean much.

Grade 10 for me, that day and the week that followed were pretty vivid. I'd even got to travel to the US earlier that year and can compare the pre and post event security.

It was my senior year of high school. I turned 18 three days after it happened.

Yep, and it was more significant since I lived in the tri-state area.

Sixteen years. 9/11 is old enough to drive now!

Yup, luckily for me both sides of my family tend to look youngish. I guess I lucked up in that regard. A few times, my older brother was mistaken as my father... He's only 2.5 years older. lol

Oops, no, my brother is 2.5 years older than me. My dad is like 29 years older.

I just remember wondering why all the other kids were being called to the office to go home. Didn't find out until later that day.

I was 21. It was my day off and I slept through the whole thing.
The bar scene later that night was a bit crazy though. All the reactionaries getting fired up and talking about blowing up gas stations.

Yep, I was getting ready for classes and got a call that they were canceled due to the attack. I was like "what?" and turned on the TV to see what happened.

Nope was only 6.

Yeah; lab instructor made a quick mention of it. Urged us to inform ourselves of the incident once class was over.

Not very well. I was in middle school. It wasn't a big deal to me at the time.

I was in 10th grade and in my geometry class at the time. I forgot the exact details but I recall at one point my teacher stopped the class and turned on the news to show what was happened. My teacher was annoyed that the news was kinda filming people jumping out of the building.

Besides this I think classes continued as normal was they could be for the rest of the day. My cross country coach commented that the people on Flight 93 were heroes for trying to stop the hijackers.

Yep. I was living in Germany at the time, so I saw it on the afternoon news. It changed my life and I was reading the newspapers for months afterwards.

I was in grade 12. I remember my mom having a meltdown about something when I got up for school, she was all teary-eyed. My first class was biology that morning, so the teacher addressed it and the next day the administration held an assembly. It felt surreal.

I thought it was a movie when I came upstairs and saw it on TV. I was just heading off to school

Now I know most of the people involved were actors.

Sad to think it's being written into "history" books the way it is.

Yeah, I was in 5th grade. I remember my mom crying like crazy when I came down for school that morning. We watched it like the whole time in class

Freshman year of hs

In the hallway before second period Spanish heard about it

Later in 4th or 5th period global studies, we left class to go to another class and watch the news on tv

Thats about all I can remember

Countless rescue workers died from complications and injuries from the environment they were in after the buildings came down, do you really think that was all just part of the act?

No, but I remember the one year anniversary of it. I was very young at the time (only 5), and from what my mom has told me she tried to shelter me from the news of it because my father was an airline pilot (and was actually in the air at the time of the attacks) and she was worried I would think he died from it.

I was in 8th grade. I remember one of my teachers getting super pissed because a student said something like "I hope we get out of school early because of this!"

Yes. I was 14 at the time and was just getting ready for school when I saw the footage on TV.
