Police discovered the facilities, which were no more than tiny cabins and one double-wide trailer, concealed in the wilderness and heavily secured. They described the scene as “a gated, makeshift paddock secured externally with a steel latch.”

The authorities found out about the cabins when a man inside managed to call 911, and when police arrived the man was “looking out through a Plexiglas window.”

The unidentified man told police that he had been held in the facility against his will for nine months, and had been treated with unknown medications. According to officers who witnessed the scene, it was impossible for the man to leave the cabin, and all he was provided was a single bed with a single sheet and a tiny bathroom, which was the “only room with a light.”

After assessing the scene, the man was taken to an emergency room at a local hospital for care. When police later returned to the cabin and trailer armed with a search warrant, they discovered people hastily packing up and moving out all contents of the facilities.

The front gate’s large locking mechanism was also removed. Later on, when the police searched another reported Scientology location, they discovered yet another “patient,” this time a female. She too was transported to a local hospital and her family notified.

Fucking end this dangerous cult already, christ.

The distinction is only because the one we consider religion is mainstream.

I think a fair modernization to the distinction would be adding "routine involvement with illegal and antisocial activity".

Fuck yes I hope this leads to massive investigations that leads to the arrest and imprisonment of the ringleaders of this criminal organization posing as a religion.

That's never going to happen.

If THIS didn't bring them down, nothing ever will. We can only hope that one day they'll just go broke and fold up, but that's the only way they're going down.

If that had happened in this age things might have turned out different.

The distinction between 'religion' and 'cult' in this case is 'the mountains of money siphoned from gullible celebrities to be dumped into endless litigation and smear tactics.'

It doesn't matter. This is the US we're talking about. Slap the word "religion" on anything and it becomes untouchable.

Alternative medecines. You would be actually surprised about how most "big pharma" conspiracies come from cults like scientology. Take THAT cult for example, there is some kind of weird auditing sessions(your secrets can be used against you). But the man originally thought psychiatrists would accept his methods. Salty that they didn't, he made a cult with his dumb shit.

I recently watched Joe Rogan interview Ron Miscavige and Leah Remini. They talk about how Scientology charms people and sucks them in, just to manipulate and extort them later. For example, the SeaOrg, I think it's called, in which members have to sign billion year contract and work grueling 16+ hour shifts nearly every day for $50 a week, if they get paid at all.

Not to mention how difficult it can be to leave the cult. Ron, for example, talked about how he and his wife had to plan their exodus weeks in advance. How they had to smuggle out their possessions and what little money they had. Because people were not allowed to leave the compounds. If someone wanted to leave, they would be physically imprisoned there.

And after he did get out, the church had men hunt him down and stalk him and his wife. They attempted to persuade and pressure him to return and, when that didn't work, they kept tabs on him. Apparently the church also went through the trouble of taking out a great many domain names in order to disparage his name and reputation online.
