Idk how to really get into this. So overwhelming.

it doesn't really have too much of an endgoal or even that much progression

build a house/hut/hole-with-a-roof
mine with stone pickaxe until you find iron
mine diamond with iron pickaxe
mine obsidian with diamond pickaxe
build nether portal

and then the majority of the game's content is open to you

Use your imagination. That's the key to Minecraft. You can essentially create just about anything. Some things probably aren't feasible to create, but even then, you could create a substitute version of those unfeasible things.

I kind of feel ya on this.

I tried to get into it because my son was big on it, but with no set goal you tend to get lost at what to do. because very uninteresting very quickly, even on survival.

never was able to play with other people like i see in the youtube videos though. some of that shit looks fun.

A creeper blew up your house? Ah, those are fun experiences. Remember to lure the creeper away from buildings first. Also, either attack it at range(so it doesn't blow up) or use hit and run to attack it. When it gets close to you it, of course, explodes.
