It's strange. I thought about buying the first game, back in 2008, but got different games that month, and then after that I got sick to death of the annualised releases and the dreadful fanbase. It looks good, but not that great. Why do people like it so much?

The appeal to me is getting to explore historical settings. I didn't like it much at first, but the modern day storyline kept me pushing through. I haven't liked the series much after III, but I've kept playing them anyway. The RPG-ish elements of improving your character and gear are fun too.

What do you even mean by the "dreadful fanbase?" There's barely any multiplayer, so you don't see a lot of shit talking beyond hating on certain entries.

I don't understand why people hate annual releases so much either. If you're buying them for $60 every year, yeah, but you could just wait until their price drops. Hell, most of the games are $5 now.

It's got decent gameplay and nice exploration, that's why I play them. Though I haven't played any game after Revelations, though I do own AC3. Need a new PC to play it... like a lot of my PC games.

I went back to school this year and took a history class. Having played all the games since the last time I was in school, I actually had an understanding of the historical context of a lot of the events and people. Before, I really didn't give a shit and had a hard time picturing where places were or what they were like at the time.

I played 2 and Black Flag and thought both were pretty good.
