It's an excellent game, obviously, one of the best games ever made. But, I always thought that the second half wasn't nearly as good as the first half. Some of the levels in Sonic 3 were superb, but a lot of the S&K ones were good, but without being great or excellent. The only ones I only really, really like MHZ, FBZ, and SSZ, plus, the lack of a water level and a pinball level is both disappointing and strange.

What do other people think about this? Which half of the game did you prefer? What did you think of the game overall?

I still like Sonic 2 the best.
I am not completely sure why people always say Sonic 3...and then with Knuckles was the best.
Maybe it's because I like the laid back feel of Sonic 2. As where Sonic 3 & Knuckles feels like more of a preduction.

I say that as someone who had Sonic 3 before the add on. I still have my cartridges.

Sonic 3 has Ice Cap zone and an awesome final boss/fb music.

S&K works great as a second half, but played on its own it has a really wonky difficulty curve, as if it's a bunch of late-game levels with Mushroom Hill tacked onto the start.
