A Dallas man shot at a man following an altercation, but accidentally hit and killed his girlfriend, police said. The incident happened about 3:50 a.m. Sunday at the Tiger Cabaret Club, in Dallas

Aldo Saucedo, 19, was arguing with a man inside the establishment before he exited and drove his car up to the front entrance. That's when a man approached Saucedo and punched him, according to an affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News.

Saucedo then retrieved a gun from his car and began shooting at the man. Instead he accidentally shot and killed his girlfriend, 18-year-old Natalie Tavares. He also shot one unidentified person who was transported to a nearby hospital with a non-life-threatening injury.

Police found Tavares lying next to a vehicle. They determined she was not the intended victim.

The two reportedly have a child together. "How can you not know what you're doing ... and shoot the mother of your child?" a friend of Tavares' family Dezarai Trevino said.

He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault.

He was punched, walked out to his car, got a gun, walked back, and started shooting.

I'm not sure what to call that other than premeditated murder. It's certainly not self defense.

I don't know how they can spin it but he deliberately shot with the intent to kill. I dunno if that's enough for first degree, but manslaughter seems weak.

Makes me wonder the exact wording of the definition of murder. I assume the way they approached it is that the man intended to kill the other person, but even though he ended up killing the wrong person by mistake, there was still murderous intent and a victim.

Felony murder rule. His intent was to kill the guy, but he killed his gf instead. The intent then transfers to the victim.

I suspect if she was an employee at the strip club where she was killed it would come up A LOT in the story and the legal case.

Literally no where is mentioning it. I find it unlikely.

Barebones version: If you're commiting a crime and anyone dies as a result of that crime, you're charged with 1st degree murder since you're technically responsible for their death.

Murder is when you intend to kill someone. Someone doesn't have to be specific. If I spray bullets into a room and kill a bunch of people, trying to argue I should get 10 counts of manslaughter because I "only actually wanted to kill the bartender" doesn't fucking work.
