I've been planning to write a book like this for about 18 months, although it's been on the backburner for a long time. I think I might write it now. I came up with various ideas, but I'm unsure if it'll be that good. Any ideas? I think the best bit is the downfall of the band, with bad reviews, Twitter tirades, performing drunk and high on stage, etc. Do people even want to read fiction books about music at all?

Yeah, I've got that. I don't think it will be a major part of the book, though.

i dont think anyone would want to read a book about a fictional band writing silly tweets and composing lousy music that a reader will never actually hear

there has to be some more nuance to it. at the end of the day, all stories are about relationships, and that's where the real drama is going to lie. the band is more or less just a plot device in this case.

Perhaps. I wanted to write it as a. a commentary on fame, and the corrupting influence of it, b. how the media confuses and distorts things, which will probably manifest itself as hard to confirm and fake news, and c. comparing mainstream success with artistry integrity. Are these not interesting? Do I need to focus less on them, and more on writing colourful characters?

The Subvertion?
They're still a high school cover band.

Bam. You can thank me when people start approaching you for the film rights.

Watch Almost Famous and change some of that around.

Feuds. Girl problems. Losing a band member. Starting out in dumps playing for their girlfriends. Hitting it big....but not really.....and then actually hitting it big. Downfall. Rise.

Shit like that, shouldn't be too hard. Just make it original.

I already have the sex, drugs, groupies and roadies. Although...I don't think you can get much material out of roadies. I mean...10 pages about people loading and unloading equipment? I can only speak for myself, but I don't think I'd enjoy doing that.

I think the best chapters are gonna be the tour chapters. I was planning 3, i.e. Britain, Oz, and America, and I think they'll be very interesting. Mention lots of cities and areas (like states), talk about how much fun it generally is for the band, etc. I think that touring is probably the best part of being a band, you know, plus, it's like a really long road trip you get paid for?

Yeah, Almost Famous has some good ideas for something like this. I've also thought a lot about real-life people, particularly their downfalls, people like Winehouse, Jackson and Cash.

I know that Cash didn't actually die, except from something like old age. You know what I mean. His downfall...before he recovered and was a good musician again.
