Super Mario 64

Super Mario Galaxy 1

Super Mario Galaxy Sunshine

Super Mario Galaxy 2

Super Mario 3D World

Worst


64 is still the best, even now. Super Mario 3D World, although very good, definitely isn't on the same level as the others, it's just too linear, and it probably doesn't have as much content. When you think about it, Sunshine had the most content, because it had about 360 unique items to collect, i.e. 120 Shines and 240 Blue Coins.

I felt Galaxy 2 was MUCH too linear, and also, there were too many 2.5D levels. I'm glad it was harder than Galaxy 1, though.

I love both but when I first played Galaxy I was a little disappointed the game had moved away form the "traditional" 3D mario games based on exploration. When I played galaxy 2 I knew what to expect and enjoyed the experience a lot more and loved the game the whole way through.

If I play the original again it might change my mind but as it stands this is my personal preference.

3D Land > Galaxy

Tried to play 64 once but could not get very far. I was a kid at the time and for some reason I was convinced you had to go into the castle through a secret tunnel in the moat. No clue where I got that idea. I think the door to the castle might have been closed or something. I dunno. It's been more than 20 years so.

The door underneath the castle is flooded so I have no idea what you were thinking. :P
