This is the process that people go through to become professional singers for the first time, right?

1. Put band / group together.
2. Write songs.
3. Perform songs for friends, at small unpaid performances, etc.
4. Get a manager.
5. Work on stuff more.
6. Get signed for a record label.
7. Get album released.
8. Profit!!!

Is this accurate, more or less?

Why isn't it accurate? What order should the points go in, then? Bare in mind this is the late 2000s and early 2010s, and I want to avoid reality TV and the internet (to an extent).

Bump.

The main thing I wanted to check was, a group gets a manager before they actually get signed by a record company, right?

It's more like,

Attempt to gain fame as a pop or rock singer,
Fail,
Get picked up by a country label
Make shitty pop country

no this is more of a 90s model, as s0nicfan said

nowadays a label is not as important thanks to the internet, streaming services, etc.

from what i have seen with my friends who were in bands or myself when i gave it a shot, it goes like

1. form a band, write music
2. get involved in your local scene
3. make connections so you can start touring (#1 most important thing for a band, tour or die)
4. build up a fanbase
5. start recording a studio album possibly, maybe open for a bigger band, etc

and from there on if you have the chops and luck you eventually will get a break and you can really grow you brand from there on out and do all the typical big musician things.

note that this is for a rock band, for pop music or whatever that is a lot more corporate

YouTube was a key part of the process from 2008 onward. If you're fount for accuracy during the time frame you stated, you'll have to include it. Between 3 and 4, add these two steps:

Get quality recording equipment
Put music on YouTube and advertise through social media

No. It's not.

It's more like.

1. Make band
2. Play music live for free or small payments
3. Get noticed by label
4. Asked to sign contract with little to no legal advice because you can't afford it. You're promised "money"
5. Sign contract, start recording
6. Label comes in, says "You know, your music is kind of niche, we want you to change it to be more similar to top 40 stuff like Imagine Dragons. You like them, right?"
7. You say "No."
8. Label says "Oh, too bad, well we wont bother recording or selling your album, then."
9. You say "We'll just go somewhere else."
10. Label says "You can't, according to this contract you signed. Either make the album the way we want or your music career ends."
11. Band produces one hit wonder
12. Band falls apart due to band drama because they don't want to keep doing it.
13. Nobody makes any money except the label.

You forgot sell out and change your name later so you can make shitty pop rap music and feature a super popular rapper on every single so all da real music fans can buy your shit but not stream it cause 2 mil isn't enough money for you and you end up releasing shit early on tidal that no one wants to pay for

I'd love one, but I'm not going to go through their bullshit to try and get it (if the limit numbers again)

Lets say Nintendo was competent with this release. What do you think is a good number to release them with if possible? I'd say a good 7 million

... What?
