Had my first experience with one last night. So much different than a nightmare.

Fell asleep on the couch maybe around 9:15/9:30. Gf got home from work around 10pm, and tried waking me up. Called my name a few times, and I didn't budge. Then she nudged me, still no response.

Finally, she started pulling my wrists to get me to wake up. At this point, my eyes opened, but I was still totally unaware/unresponsive.

I then apparently started screaming at the top of my lungs for like 45 seconds, and was grabbing her hard enough to bruise her arm.

When I finally "woke up", I had no recollection of any of this. Still don't.

I know it isn't my "fault", but I feel terrible.

Yeah, they suck pretty hard. I get them 2-3 times a week due to an old SWAT raid on my apartment. It's the reason I don't sleep in the same room as my fiance very often.

I dated this girl for a little while who used to co-sleep with her child. (Don't get me started on that)

Anyways, he 3 and a half or so and had night terrors. We would be sleeping in bed and he would sit up screaming and crying. No amount of shaking or trying to talk to him would help. It's really kinda freaky because sometimes his eyes were open and he was just yelling like a horror movie.

Man, that sucks. I offered to sleep on the couch last night, because I was afraid it would happen. She said it wasn't necessary.

I really don't think I've gone through anything that would cause PTSD. But there are other causes I guess.

Really hoping it was an isolated incident. I did tell her I want to get checked out, if it happens again.

Mm, mine might be PTSD related. I've always had really vivid nightmares, and once you wake up to a SWAT guy with his knee on your chest and a shotgun a couple inches from your face, those nightmares get a lot worse.

I'm in no way an expert in night terrors, but I do know they have a huge amount of 'triggers', for lack of a better term. My friend will 100% have one if he eats really spicy food. My great uncle served in Korea and Vietnam, and if a loud noise happens in the middle of the night he starts screaming and swinging. Before she passed, he was married to my great aunt for... 40? Or so years, and they only slept in the same room for the first six months or so. She knocked over a lamp, and he knocked her out.

This vet I work with has problems with them, and has woken up choking out his wife numerous times. Fuck that.

I've been getting terrors my whole life. Usually a few times a week I generally don't remember them at this point.

My fiance is good at waking me up now on the first indication I'm having one. Usually a scream or audible struggle in my sleep.

I get the paralysis and the shadow men it's scary shit when it happens. I try not to sleep on my back because it tends to trigger them more when I do because I think I sleep deeper because I breath better.

I actually had one this morning it was pretty fucked up I was with my fiance in my dream and I went into a bathroom and had blood all over a certain part of my body so I decided to get into the shower. When I got in the shower there was this "mirrored" image of a person I couldn't quite make out because it was like that mirror effect when multiple mirror go into on another. I then looked up and there was a shadow man looking down on my from over the top of the shower. His face was all blacked out and kind of blurry I proceeded to scream at this point and my fiance woke me up.

I rolled over and went back to bed. I don't let them win anymore at this age they can fuck off.

That does sound freaky as hell. I thought you generally weren't suppose to remember night terrors though. When I was researching this morning, I thought I read something that you aren't actually dreaming during a night terror.

There are a bunch of documentaries on this stuff if you start looking into it. I suggest ignoring it and hopes it goes away. The more you look into it the worse it might get.

Oh, sleep paralysis is no joke either. I think they're a bit different, but very shitty to deal with regardless.

My understanding is it all starts with sleep paralysis and terrors follow.
