Bitcoin is a joke

The more the value of the bitcoin rises compared to the dollar, the less value it has as currency, which is the reason it exists. It is a perfect example bubble that will eventually burst.

It's the best one to use. It's the original that started the boom of all these investments. I put $100 into it years ago and it rose to $400 profit for me just a month back.

Good luck getting into it right now if you start looking into it more seriously because every mining GPU is sold out or jacked in price everywhere. You can't get too old or too high end of a GPU or you could end up spending more on your electric bill than you make from mining, but right now all the best mining cards are sold out or absurdly expensive.

And it really sucks for non miners who just want to build a budget/mid range PC right now since you basically either have to go 1050 Ti or jump to a 1070 because 1060's and 480's/580's might as well not even exist right now.

that mining craze definitely hurt people. those who just want a new GPU to play games are affected by the price increase. definitely sucks.

don't plan on mining soon though. thinking about trading and as a short-medium-length investment. i doubt long term investment is possible without heavy risk

Same. I heard about it extremely early on but I had no understanding of crypto currency and such at the time so I was pretty much just completely dismissive of it being something that has no relevance to me.

1070's are just as hard to find now because of the mining nonsense. They are being bought up as well.

and this sucks because I won't even trust the aftermarket specifically with these cards because of the mileage being put on them.

Yeah I guess that makes sense considering 1060/480/580 GPU's are jacked up to near 1070 prices at this point so you might as well just get one of those. And it's gonna suck in 2-3 years if you go on eBay or something to pick up some older parts for cheaper than their current gen rough equivalents because you won't be able to trust anything. It could've been in someone's gaming or video editing computer or it could've been running non stop 24/7 for the last 2 years mining and then the thing dies a few months after you get it.

Off topic: Everything about the budget PC scene kinda sucks right now though. G4560 is jacked up everywhere and reportedly Intel is going to cut production even more so the $60 bang for your buck CPU is dead. Ryzen 3 will be out soon but I doubt they plan to target the Pentium price range with any of the models, it's probably only in the i3 price range, I don't think anything is gonna match the value it offered. The high end market is doing better than ever with Ryzen 7 shaking things up and the ultra high end/workstation market is better than ever due to the i9's and upcoming threadripper CPU's along with stuff like the 1080 Ti and new Titan being unbelievably fast cards.
But the mid range and especially budget market is kinda getting fucked hard right now and I guess we'll just have to wait for the trickle down :/ I kinda wish I'd pulled the trigger on a G4560+RX 480 bundle on Newegg for a HTPC when I had the chance.

Ryzen 3 is still only going to go as low as 4 cores and 8 threads correct? If so yeah I can really only imagine them potentially going as low as the $100-$120 range but nothing that's on par with the G4560 as far as gaming specifically bang for buck.

But at the same time I can respect that AMD is wanting to standardize 4 cores as the baseline for processors and is really pushing for higher core counts now since we've kinda been stagnant at 4 core i5's and 4 core 8 thread i7's for what feels like ages now. I know there was the 6 core and then 8 core but they were so ridiculously priced because they knew they had the market for high end CPU's locked down with no competition so they could charge whatever they wanted. But standardizing 4 cores should lead to better multi core optimization for games and other programs that aren't already right? DX12 is already kinda made steps towards that and I guess the consoles using old 8 core AMD chips, as underpowered as their ICP (I think individual core performance is the proper term) is, it's still something I guess right?

hindsight is always 20/20

it was an ultra-high risk market with pretty much zero security. you might have made a successful investment that was then stolen

no better than a 1060/580 given the price.

which is why they are still readily available.

if you're paying MSRP, you'll be much better off buying two 1070s than one 1080ti

The memory in the 1080, however has shit latency which makes it terrible for mining, so don't buy that.

If you're buying aftermarket (i.e. you can't find the 1070 in stock) then the prices are likely inflated to 1080ti price anyway so buy whatever you want. the actual graphics processing power of the card isn't what's being used. it's the threads and memory. that's why you can get FPGAs and ASICs that are much better at mining than cards.
