Money laundering is essentially the practice of making illegal money (especially a lot of it) appear legitimately earned. The classic example is using a legitimate business as a front to deal with all the money earned through criminal activities.

In addition to the above; it can also mean exchanging traceable bills for circulated money in order to make the money harder to trace.

I've never seen the show, but if he took $8 million and ran it through a business as profit, he'd still have to pay taxes on it since he is pretending that the illegal money he's laundering is profit from the business.
