I'm a Christian and I believe that the Bible is the perfect unchanging word of God. I also believe some things in it are to be taken metaphorically.

Also lol @ the guy quoting from the Law of Moses. The whole point of the law was that it was impossible for anyone to follow and thus we needed a savior. The Jews have never followed the law in its entirety, and when Jesus was crucified it made the law void as he established the new covenant. The Quran doesn't have Jesus making a new covenant.

In 2017, that's the group that takes their holy book the most literally. Christians will selectively take the Bible literally, but it's really impossible to live in western civilization if you think the entire book is a literal account of how you should lead your life.

The whole point of the law was that it was impossible for anyone to follow and thus we needed a savior. The Jews have never followed the law in its entirety, and when Jesus was crucified it made the law void as he established the new covenant.

2 Corinthians 3:7-8

But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather glorious?

Jesus himself completely done away with the harsh penalties set by the law, and made some of the laws void. The law is only used as reference now, not for standards of punishment.

Most of the draconian rules people associate with Islam originate from hadith, not the Qur'an... The hadiths are what most need to be reformed. Ideas like the caliph as the highest religious authority, religious policing, didn't start until the Abbasid Caliphate, three centuries after Islam. I don't think most people know these things.

To be accurate though the cycle of hatred in the Middle East has as much or more to do with politics rather than religion. It's very much a

"We'll keep occupying you until you stop terrorizing us"
"We'll keep terrorizing you until you stop occupying us"

kind of thing.

This. Since the first sin in the Garden of Eden, a blood offering was required for the atonement of sin. The Law of Moses listed strict guidelines for sins and the specific offerings to atone for those sins. One time a year the High Priest would go into the deepest part of the tabernacle where the Spirit of God dwelt and make a sacrifice for the nation.

This section of the tabernacle and later the temple was seperated by a veil. The moment Jesus took his last breath an earthquake happened that pulled the curtain down from the temple signifiying that the spirit of God no longer dwelt in one place. Jesus is now our High Priest, making intercession for us at the right hand of God.

Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice, and if we still had to make sacrifices to atone for our sins it would mean his sacrifice was in vain, and we would be bound for hell regardless of how well we follow the law.

In a lot of the various documentaries and videos that I have seen about the radicalization of Islam a lot of the Mosque leadership in them seem to have discussion or debate about interpretations of the Koran and as someone who was raised Catholic it seemed to be that there was a lot more personal interpretation going on in Islam than Catholicism to me.

I have not studied Islam at all so take this as an unconfirmed observation.
