I mean the entire concept of a jedi is kind of a mary sue. Or at least, rather, force users.

Sure, the originals showed a rockier transition to Luke finding his potential. Without knowing Rey's history, I don't find it particularly shocking that someone who is either related to a skywalker, or in a similar "tier" as a skywalker has intuitive skills in things they didn't properly train in. Young anakin won a podrace against a seasoned veteran after all.

Also, if I remember ep. 7 correctly, she was still sloppy. I don't think contending with Kylo is all that impressive. For starters, Kylo wasn't trained in the setting of a society with a bunch of jedi or sith. He has no real role models, no real comparison, and we really don't know the extent of his "training" from Snoaks. For all we know, he's just a pawn and he's certainly gullible enough to think he's the special apprentice while mastermind over there is thinking what a fucking idiot this kid is.

1. I imagine most people living on Jakku have some proficiency with hand to hand and martial weaponry, especially scavengers. You don't survive there long with out this.

2. She played around with the Falcon for years while it languished on that lot. Part of that play was familiarizing herself with how it worked.

3. I don't recall this. From what I remember he knew what it was he needed to fix, she was just faster at the handiwork of actually doing it, because she understood what was wrong too. And again, she knows the Falcon.

4. This is a value judgement. In my opinion she's pretty likable, but she's not inspiring devotion in anyone except Finn.

5. and 6. I willingly accepted Force Jesus. I'm willing to let the plot hash that out. Also, this ignores the presence of other Force-sensitives in the expanded universe who were never formally trained, but who learn it as a kind of wild magic. There are actually a fair amount of these types out there, who either hid their powers to avoid being kidnapped or conscripted by the Sith, or who sneakily used it to get an edge on their baseline competition.
