Board 8 > Thinking of getting into the Far Cry. Which is the best game in the series?

Not the biggest fan of the FPS genre in general (there are few I love though) but I've never given this series a chance.
I'd like to start with the best game in the series so that I can see for myself whether the series is or is not for me.

So if the board can sell me on the best game of the series, I'd be much obliged.

3 and if you play it there is no reason to play 4 because it's the same thing but different map and then there is even less reason to play Primal because it's literally 4 with a different color palette

Never played 1 and 2 but I didn't come across many people that prefered it over 3

You can beat Far Cry 4 in literally 15 minutes without using any hacks or exploits.

I haven't played it, but Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon is clearly the best.

Far Cry and Far Cry 2 were literally two of the worst games I've ever played, so not those.

I'm told the series became good starting around 3 but I'm in no hurry to try it after those two awful, awful games

3 is good but insanely dated. If you've played any open world game in the last 5 years, you've played it already.

It's very, very similar to Assassin's Creed
It's like "Assassin's Creed with guns" I guess
Big ass map, chests everywhere, collectibles everywhere, you climb towers to see more of the map, you take control of outposts...repeat 300 times

I mean it was fine doing it in Far Cry 3 for the first time
But doing the same thing again was overkill

Far Cry 2 is definitely my favorite, but I would have to imagine that 3 is the easiest one to get into, so I recommend starting with that.

I actually really liked Primal. Aren't exactly a whole lot of good cavemen games, and that filled a niche i didn't know I needed

Far Cry 2 has some great ideas but flawed execution. Far Cry 3 has a super memorable villain for the first 40% of it and then sputters out. Far Cry 4 is more of the same, but has a memorable villain for its entirety, but can also be beaten in 15 minutes by refusing to engage with the game. Oddly enough, it is actually the best ending to that game. Far Cry 1 is forgettable and basically nothing like the subsequent games. Never played Far Cry Primal but I understand it is super lacking. Far Cry Blood Dragon is a fucking awesome stand alone spin off(?) not sure what to call it actually.

Didn't actually play Blood Dragon myself but it seems like the only other one worth playing

Far Cry: Primal has probably the best close-quarters kill animations, but lacks aircraft and proper guns. Far Cry 3 has the best villain, but gets dull after the first half. Far Cry 4 has helicopters, but it isn't quite as engaging. I never played the original Far Cry (it's still sitting unplayed on my 360), Instincts was kind of crap, and Far Cry 2 has a dull story and respawning checkpoints.
