I hadn't even heard of her until this year, and I thought she was mostly an actress, but she was more of a singer. I now get the impression I should've heard of her a lot sooner than the age of 34. Is she famous, well-known, or obscure?

I only really know about her because she was a guest on MadTV. That show didn't really have guests regularly like SNL.

Hahaha, nah, it was after her concert. Went to her hotel and brought flowers for her. It's as far as I got >_>

I mean she's certainly famous to anyone who was alive at the time she was famous. And even with younger people, if you have any interest in that period of music you sure as hell should know who she is.

I think "by the standards" is a bad term to use. You're asking if she's still famous or not right? And I would say it's a generational thing. For people in their 40s and up she is very famous. Gradually less and less so as you go younger.
