And to me, if Harveys behavior is the most reprehensible thing one can imagine, a not-so-distant second is the current flood of sanctimonious denial and condemnation that now crashes upon these shores of rectitude in gloppy tides of bullshit righteousness. Because everybody-fucking-knew

Weinstein is a disgusting scumbag for what he did but this is a valid point. Where were all these Hollywood elites, who are just shocked this goes on, before this became a scandal? Oh that's right they're not shocked at all, knew and did shit about it because everyone is making money hand over fist. Disgusting.

Anyway the article is sort of long but a good read. Really makes you think.

Half the people condemning Weinstein also stood to clap for and signed a petition in favour of Roman Polanski, so it's hard to take any of them seriously.

Of course, Hollywood is a fucked up pleas full of drugs and orgies and broken dreams, every single star and actress has had to do some lewd shit to get where they are,it's naive as hell to think there's a single one of them who got their fame and fortune by staying clean or being completely innocent, yeah, that pretty much shits on all of their reputations and hard work but it's the truth, the other truth is that even with all of this shit coming out, the environment that spawns it will not die. The people will move on and forget and maybe not even care such as with all the dirty business of the NFL and NBA. So long as they get their entertainment it's fine.

Did you phrase it like you think Weinstein is not so bad or something?

Because to these people, maintaining the status quo is more important than women, or morals.

No one cares if you're being raped as long as you don't rock the boat. If you rock the boat because you're being raped, people will get mad at you for rocking the boat and not because you're being raped.

In 15 years (max) people will be back to forgiving Weinstein and talking favorably about him. Unless his defenders and supporters are all the old guard, maybe theyll just die off and things will slowly change.

I doubt Weinstein will be forgiven, but nothing will change in Hollywood and elites will continue to contribute to or do nothing about this kind of behavior.

I'm not trying to defend a pedophile but I assume they all were just paying respect for his work despite being in legal troubles

Would it be seen to be wrong for them to give a standing ovation if he was in trouble for say tax evasion?

Peadophilia and rape is a bit different to tax evasion.

I don't think any respect should be paid towards a man who drugged and raped a 13 year old, something he and the victim admitted to.

The petition they signed was for the FBI to give him a break, so they literally were trying to get him off the hook. It's ugly.
