i think it'll be good for people that just watch the show. people that read the books will probably have a lot of problems with it. i know there's not a book on season 8 but there's been a lot of things they changed from the books in the older seasons and plot holes and stuff.

i'm looking forward to it but i don't think it's a show i'll watch again. i might check out the books sometime if i wanna go through it again and see how things are different.

Yeah the show is almost completely different from the books after season 4

Arguably for the worst but eh

They cast Harry Strickland (the leader of the Golden Company) and the whole time I'm thinking "wow they better make him bald". And also how hilarious it would be if they tried *book spoilers* cramming the entire Aegon/Connington storyline into six episodes

Of course it won't. It's impossible to live up to the hype.

Not to mention that the insufferable book readers who will shit on every irrelevant thing because they are angry grrm hasn't finished the next book so they focus their attention on the flight speed of Ravens.

There are show only fans that acknowledge that episode was hot garbage

Yeah it wasn't much of a book-only viewer thing.

A lot of folks were pretty weirded out by it and criticized it.

Which is good, because it's quite deserving of criticism

The air-speed velocity of a barely-laden raven was the least of that ep's problems.

honestly if they had just marked the passage of time better, have a couple of redshirts freezing to death, or maybe said something like "dany is at eastwatch". something. anything.

Nah, the Pokewight plan was so bad in its inception that the episode was doomed before it even aired. At least they didn't throw away Tormund just for the sake of le named body count, then the ep would have been unforgivable.

Someone pointed out it'd have been much better if either

- it was Cersei's idea

- it wasn't to convince Cersei it was to convince the maesters

It's not a problem to anyone who isn't a pedantic asshat. It's amusing, you make the logical conclusion that more time passed but the show doesn't show it because they have a limited amount of time and don't want to waste a scene to show explicitly how many days passed. And it's standard television.

Lol the maesters

Is their only relevance in the end (in the show) going to be getting Sam a book about R+L and ending the unnecessary greyscale plot?

Probably, since Sam is gone and it doesn't seem that the greyscale caused an outbreak or had any lingering consequences.
