He has the option to block or let it declassify. He is letting it declassify. The comment from Mana is just pointless. Yes, it wasn't his idea to declassify it, but he could block it if he wanted to and isn't which makes the negative comment by Mana weird.

you know what, Ill take the L on this one. I didnt realize there had been an ongoing discussion about whether Trump would block the release of these documents. I just assume he was trying to take credit for something he had no really hand in, as often is the case.

it's not a negative comment, it's a statement of fact. A pointless comment is to take issue with that factual detail.

There's a big difference between "Trump releases JFK documents" and "Trump doesn't interfere with the release of JFK documents" because (a) implies personal agency while (b) is passive noninterference.

I'm not even sure why you think anyone is trying to rain on some Trump accomplishment in the first place when nobody cares beyond his base of conspiracy theorists. If "Trump doesn't block release of JFK documents" is your big story of the week that's just sad.

If anything, removing the agency from Trump in this case actually makes it a BETTER story for him, because had he personally pushed for this it would seem like crazy pandering to that conspiracy base and following up on Cruz's dad which would be crazy. (aka how the story was framed before Kleenex gave context)

It's a statement of fact accompanied by a tone that sorta gives the feel that you're a Trump witchhunter at heart more than someone taking in the news.

Trump does enough stupid shit that you really don't need to make a point to bury the stuff that he's doing right, or even the neutral stuff. It just comes off as really petty at that point.

Also fun fact about the First Lady that I learned not too long ago: despite being an actual positions with actual duties (however vague and dependent on the women themselves in many cases), the First Lady doesn't draw any sort of salary.

It seems fucking weird to me but then they're always rich anyway so I can't care that much.

That again is your opinion. If you think it is a fact, you need to be able to point to actual points of the institution which are racist. Which law says a black man will serve a harsher crime than a white man? Which law says that black men must be arrested more than white men? Etc. Until that is satisfied, it is your opinion.

I am not going to call you stupid for your opinion because you can be smart and have a differing opinion than I do. I, however, laugh when you specifically say you once thought someone was smart but now think they are not because they have a different opinion than you. It is pretty closeminded.

There are some racist people in jobs of power. That I do believe. I do not, however, believe that racism is institutional.

Because it has actual duties associated with it (mostly related to being the WH host I think), and because it's de facto an actual position now with way more responsibilities than it had 200 years ago. The first was expected at the time because that's the role of a wife, but our society should be better than that now; the second is why I'd argue it should draw a salary regardless.

But like I said, I'm not gonna lose sleep over Melania not making an extra $100,000 a year or whatever. There are bigger issues, it's just something interesting.
