Board 8 > Can you guys sell me on Ace Attorney Investigations?

Been getting an Ace Attorny itch lately and seeing as the only games I haven't played in the series are the two AAI games and Prof Layton vs. PW, I thought why not.

Now, I know AAI2 has a lot of fans and I'd love to play that game but I need to get through AAI1 first and I remember being pretty bored by it back then. I admittedly didn't get far though.

How long is the game and are any of the cases in the game as intriguing as any of the mainline ones?

Honestly, AAI1's cases aren't that intriguing compared to mainline games, although I still enjoyed it. A lot of people love E1-4, but I'm not big on it. Most of the cases are average length (3-5 hours) except for E1-5, which is a little bloated. I'd still recommend playing it before playing AAI2, which is excellent, because the two games do have some continuity between them.

it depends on what you like about ace attorney

AAI has lots of edgeworth (obviously), some neat mysteries, your usual assortment of wonky guests, and an incredible soundtrack (extra-significant for a game with mainly static graphics)

what it's lacking, in large part, is the emotional stakes from the mainline games. the cast isn't as strong and the format can certainly feel strange.

i would clearly rank AAI above apollo justice

Speaking of, Capcom did just reveal they're making an Ace Attorney for Switch, though they didn't say if it's new or a port.

Can be a Trilogy port but let's hope for a new game!

Oh yeah, AAI1 has one of the best soundtracks in the series.

And yeah, none of the cases are bad, but none of them are great either. It's a serviceable game, but it feels like they needed the entire game to work the kinks out for the sequel.

The intro case villain might be the best villain in the game, although to be fair, he's pretty great. Just the rest of them aren't so great.

Lang's a good rival. Arguably the best Ace Attorney soundtrack. Some really solid locations/setpieces and examining dialogue. It also has a Top 5 Moment in the entire series for me.

I really enjoyed it when I first played it, but then I watched someone else do an LP on it this year, and man, it's really not as good as I remembered. But the last case has some really, really cool moments. Besides, you're really gonna want to finish it so you can move on to the best AA game, its sequel.
