offenders?

These Jesse Lacey allegations have got me legitimately upset. I knew he used to be a bit of an asshole, but I didn't know a 15 year old was involved

And yes, I know my problems are not equal to the women that got exploited.

Yeah, literal baby rapists are definitely off my radar.

Every popular musician has had women threw themselves at them. And some of those women are underage girls.

Would you be surprised if I told you that boy bands like The Backstreet Boys get tons of teenage girls throwing themselves at them? And they take some of those girls to their hotel rooms. I remember this one story where a 16 girl was losing her virginity to her favorite Backstreet Boy.

Nothing in the world is what it seems. There are countless untold stories and some stories will never be told.

A person's consumption of an artist's output in no way suggest that they support their moral decisions in life. This phenomenon perplexes me about people.

Why are you trying to justify sex with a minor by saying that the sheer quantity of underaged girls some musicians have access to makes it okay?

I never said it was OK. I'm just saying it's more common than people think. And if some musicians start getting outed by by regretful fans, don't be all that surprised.

No it doesn't, but it isn't absurd for people to not want to spend money on media created by a piece of shit.
Wow you go right for the jugular huh? My wife won't watch Tom Cruise or Mel Gibson. Do I respect her decision? Sure. Do I still find it perplexing? Sure.

If I went to see the Mummy its not like I wrote on the $20 bill I paid the theater to watch it "Dear Mr Cruise, I hope this $20 finds your way to you and you can use it to help solidify your cult where you can regularly demoralize and belittle humans in an attempt to scare them into submission so they will worship your space god. Thank you"

This. It's pretty fucking simple.
I like Ender's Game despite its author being someone who'd take great issue with who I am.

In a more extreme example, my music collection contains bands whose members have outright murdered people. Yet here I am, not advocating murder.

^ That's not what he said though. He said he doesn't get why people think supporting work means you support someone's morals.

This is reminding me of the Female Ghostbusters Reboot where femminsits argued that the masses were sexist against women because they didn't like the movie despite it being bad.

Work and morality are entirely different things. Think of your favorite movie. Nothing about it changes due to whether or not the guy who made it eats live kittens in his personal life

In the context of the question in the topic title and your response, it does give the impression that you are justifying it.

I'm sure it is more common than we suspect, so what are you pointing to with that being the case?

I was fairly neutral with my response. Musicians sleeping with fans is normal and if the fan is legal to have sex, who am I to judge? If the girl is underage, then I'm not OK with it.

With it being so common, my point is that this may just be the beginning. More and more of these accusations will follow.

And I responded that it isn't all that perplexing (his word) that someone doesn't want to support an entertain that is a convicted sex offender, for example. It isn't hard to understand that someone would not want to pay for a movie with the leading actor as outed as a pedophile or something along those lines.

That isn't to say that because you pay money for entertainment created by a piece of shit person means that you support their decisions. It's that the inverse isn't exactly like that.
Most of the people that are adverse to consuming an artist's work because of something deplorable they have done, like my wife with Gibson and Cruise is because she does not want her money to go to some vile thing that they "put their money where there mouth is". In fact most anyone is saying that giving them money by supporting their product is the what they are unwilling to do. I won't argue with my wife that Cruise isn't batshit crazy or Gibson a bigot. But once the money leaves my hand, I am absolved of what happens to it after that. Most people fitting the OP don't feel this way. I don't think anyone is arguing what some of the artists mentioned here have done is not bad.

He said it was perplexing that people think by supporting work you're supporting whatever morals the person making the work abides by in their personal life.
