The whole rear wall is sagging now, with one section completely destroyed... still owe 2k for the materials as is.

Looks like an easy fix.

You might want to fall some of those dead trees in the back

Homeowners insurance? I could check that, we're still in our first year of ownership. However, the fence wasn't there when we bought the house. We just built it recently. Not sure if it would be covered.

Yeah I've got the ruined panel ripped out. I don't have any kind of sawzall or chainsaw to cut through the dead tree unfortunately, so I'm trying to find a friend with one.

Luckily, I do have an extra fence panel in my garage. But I may need to re plant the whole back wall. I'm not sure,

That's a pain in the ass. One of those little "surprises" life likes to throw at you, usually when you're already strapped for cash as is.

Here's to hoping it's not a huge expense/investment of time.

Dude just get one of these. You could easily handle trees that size with a bow saw.

https://www.harborfreight.com/21-inch-bow-saw-66545.html

Also an axe is useful and maybe a hatchet.

If you're really eager get one of these

Hmm yeah maybe I'll do that. I've been meaning to make my first HF trip.

I don't have a ton of money at the moment, but spending $50 on chainsaw would probably be a great investment. As long as it's somewhat decent quality.

Could rent one for cheap if you really wanted to, but a hand saw is more than enough for that thing.

Get one that looks like this, much better: https://www.wickedtreegear.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/wicked-tough-hand-saw-full.jpg

Could get an electric chain saw, they're great for the price and low maintenance. Just got to watch out for the cord and the fact they're usually torquier than gas saws ie, safety chaps wont stop a gas chainsaw blade.

But that doesnt look too bad, it probably wont need to be redone.

Eh I'll probably just hold on to it. All I have right now, is an old rusty backsaw/hacksaw. Can't cut through warm dog shit.

Don't underestimate what you can do with a HF bow saw.

I've cleared A LOT of brush and trees with a manual bow saw, axe, shovel etc...

I would clear out some of those dead trees behind the fence so they don't fall on it again.

HF tools are pretty decent and you typically get 90 day free warranty so if anything breaks in the first 3 months they replace it.

I never buy the warranty because I typically am doing small jobs and if the tools last a couple years or more and needs to be replaced I just get a new one.

This is a useful tool as well

Are they your trees? I would have a talk to whoever owns them if they arent and see if you if you cant work something out in the future when youve got more money to take them down or get the tree line dead wooded.

They aren't on my property. There's a railroad track behind my house. There's about 30 ft of woodline before the railroad track. It probably belongs to them.

Ask them if they're willing to do anything about it, but usually, whatever falls on to your property is your issue. Its a weird insurance thing.

I guarantee no one will care if you're clearing out dead trees.

You might check who owns that area behind your house. Keeping those trees cut back so that doesnt happen is their responsibility.

Check for any signs posted by access roads or on the other side of the fenceline periodically.

Bought that chainsaw mentioned earlier. It's been pouring for hours, haven't had a chance to use it.

Dumb question.

Should I be "revving" the chainsaw before making contact with the branch?

Or touch it to the branch, then rev?

I know the tip of the chainsaw shouldn't be touching it

Good call on the chainsaw. It made easy work of the branch. Going to put a new panel up tomorrow morning.

Thanks CE!

I called the railroad to see if they'd be willing to take down some of the trees.

They're coming out on Wednesday. Super nervous though. It's a bit of a long story, and would be easier explained with pics
