I've been playing MGS since like 1998

I still don't understand how the fuck the Codec works. Is it like a physical item you can look into, hence the fact that Otacon can like zoom into the camera and Meryl takes off her Balclava to look into it? Oh and Liquid literally having to tie his hair back and wear sunglasses?

Or is it like, nanomachines transmitting thoughts in seconds? Cause like, everyone in MGS2 demands to talk to Raiden through Codec even if they are standing right next to him.
