You could go into it blind. It recaps well enough and the plot isn't really too essential to the evil dead series.
It's all good stuff though, so watch the old stuff when you get a chance. The first one is kind of an unintentional comedy, but the later films embrace the goofiness. --- PSN: Jiek ... Copied to Clipboard!

You really should watch all 4 Evil Dead movies before watching the series, but I guess you could still enjoy it without watching the movies. I highly, highly suggest you watch the movies, though.
