My dad is hoping for a career change to something insurance fraud investigation related. His government pension is just about capped out and very high, so he wants to just take it then get another job to pad the bank. He is about as uptight as Hank Hill when it comes to honesty and rules, and would love the instant gratification of ruining people committing fraud. His background makes him very over qualified, and I hope he gets it. He deserves a win with all the bad luck he's had with his health over the years.

I don't know what this means

You think they're beyond reproach, are relatively spotless in record, relatively act accordingly, etc.

Well insurance is highly federally and jurisdictionally regulated and when people sue an insurance company for bad faith and succeed the company gets fined millions of dollars to deter inappropriate claim handling so... It's hard to get away with actual illegal things.

Recently a person in my department got fired for not assigning counsel to claims and incurring default judgments on behalf of insureds. He got my company fined heavily and lost his job. And he was only able to act inappropriately for a short time before that happened.

My father is an insurance lawyer and while you are accurate in their regulation and being carefully watched, at the same time the legal policies they follow are only legal because wheels much higher up in the fed get greased by the companies to lend or withold in situations that only serve to help the company and screw over the customer.

What? He just thinks there's a large exposure potential in litigation and wants me to preemptively settle but I disagree with his opinion based on the facts of the claim. But since I'm a claim specialist and he's a section manager he knows more than me about what happens in litigation and he has final authority in the matter.

I don't know what kind of cases your father handles but that's not correct at all. Bad faith against an insured exists in almost every state and having a bad faith judgment is really severe because they'll fine your company millions of dollars. Everyone at my company is trained that you pay what you owe per the policy and applicable case law or else you are going to get in a lot of trouble.
