I used to be a big FF fan but I kinda fell out of it after FFXII. Square's leap to online games and repeated sequels seemed to me to be losing sight of the "Fantasy" part of the series.

And I can't judge FFXIII because when I tried to play it I was so bored I had to stop playing and never went back to it. Which I fully admit can be misleading as tons of RPGs especially JRPGs have slow starts. I mean I know tons of people who love FFX but who turn around and say "IT gets good after Luca"

Anyways, everyone and their dog has praised FFXV, all the new fans are like "Hey Final Fantasy doesn't suck anymore!" and all the old fans are like "Hey! Final Fantasy has gone back to not sucking anymore!" and someone got me a copy as a gift so I'm going to give it a try.

But what does CE Think?

Is it a great game? Or is it just design by commity that fanboys will praise because at this point they'd praise a cucumber lying in a dirty sink so long as it had a spikey haircut?

^ Hey now that's completely unfair.

It's an average game, looks great though.

Better than 13 and 8 imo.

Where are they saying this?

It's not the best game ever and it has a ton of room for improvement but I enjoyed it for what it was

It's the best FF since X. I've played every Final Fantasy sans the spinoffs.

While we are on the subject, could anybody elaborate on the updates made since the original release? (I played it a little bit, but sold it and recently re-purchased it).

This isn't the direction I want the series to exclusively take, but I would take this over online or real-time play. I'm about 10 hours in, but I'm having fun with it, and I only paid $30.

I think it's a good game for what it is, but the biggest criticism I share a lot with others is the story mode. Firstly there are times it feels incredibly rushed (especially the dramatic moments) and there are times when it feels way too slow, so the pacing feels all over he place. Secondly it felt like an incomplete game because there are literally parts of the game where certain characters would go missing and when you find them something dramatic happens to them that is never explained... and the only way for you to know is if you buy the season pass (bad practice in my eyes). Thirdly the story isn't all that special, I mean sure the villain in the game is pretty awesome, but nothing really amazing happens and it's something you've seen done to death a lot. The last piece of criticism has nothing to do with the story, but on why some people will hate this game. Just like in ff13 where it's basically an lol "auto battle", this game does feel like it plays itself at times. The driving isn't free roam like GTA, you follow a rail. You can do battles just by simply holding the attack button. You can't use summon anytime you like, you have to wait for the game to let you use a summon and it's mostly random during a battle.

With that said, I really like the game as so far I put in 48 hours into it. I personally really like that you're not starting an adventure recruiting strangers, but rather start a game with already establish friends and get to see them banter. The dialogue in this game can be funny with the banters and the lip sync is on point. Not to mention it's a very beautiful game and they constantly patch the game with extra quests and fixes to prolong the life of the game, which already has a lot of stuff you can do in it to begin with like fishing and Chocobo racing. There are free updates that come with some fun minigame events like the moogle celebration and the Assasins Creed event. While I didn't buy the DLC episodes, I did watch let's plays and they do look fun. I personally bought the Multiplayer dlc "Comrades" and it's pretty much monster hunter (though not as refined and tuned, but still playable) It's not perfect and it's definitely not for everyone but I'll be lying if I said I didn't enjoy it.

I know this topic is about XV, but if you haven't tried XIV, I recommend it. It's the most Final Fantasy Final Fantasy in a long time despite the MMO format.
