People love those. I wanna go buy some limited edition ones(Or jus some in general, since they are all kinda limited edition), and make a killing selling them. I don't even really like them that much. I have one I'll keep, but that's different. Anyway, the only problem is waiting for the price to go up for the ones I'll buy...

wtf... That's nutty.

At any rate, when I got a Chernabog (standard) from the Disney store, the box was banged up so I just tossed it. I wish I'd save it for the remote chance of someday making a lot of money selling it... but I also kinda really like that Chernabog. Probably one of only Pop!s I wouldn't get rid of, him and the Batman TAS Scarecrow.

Its pretty unpredictable which ones become valuable a lot of the time. Some are rarer and more popular characters, or have a more limited run, but there for some reason just isnt as much demand for them.

For example Ive got an exclusive X-Force variant Deadpool with a matching chimichanga truck that youd think would be valuable given the characters popularity but people usually arent willing to bid over the MSRP for it.

Kinda. If something is really limited like 100 or less produced you can pretty much guarantee it will be highly sought after

But the ones that really have their value skyrocket are ones that Funko produces a somewhat limited amount of because they dont know how well it will sell, and then demand increases for it later on.

For example the first run of Game of Thrones pops go for a ton because they were released when the show was fairly new and hadnt become such a pop culture megahit yet. So for a quite a while you could buy them for $15-30 each, but now ones like Ned and Renly go for well over $500

But you usually don't know which ones have less, I assume. Or people would be buying those like crazy just to sell them. But I feel like people could make an educated guess.

I threw out the box, not the figure. The box was in shitty shape so I didn't see any point in keeping it.

The stuff that came out earlier would have been the best bet because now they're probably doing larger runs. However, most things which come out at a Hot Topic have a large enough run that they'll likely never be rare. If you're just thinking about stuff that *might* rise in price, you'd probably want to go for variants which aren't likely to have that many produced (con exclusives and website exclusives). In the case of the metallic set, they were apparently SDCC exclusives so even at the time the run would have been small enough that not everybody might have been able to get one.

https://www.poppriceguide.com/guide/p/PopVinyl_PopDisney/191/SorcererMickeyampChernabogMetallic/

Convention exclusives in general tend to be more expensive on the aftermarket.

Convention exclusives literally always have smaller runs. Sometimes there might be enough overstock that it gets a limited retail run, but if you can find it at a retailer *usually* it's not going to be worth that much in the long run. Barnes & Noble picked up a bunch of the con exclusives that Funko couldn't sell and I'm assuming that they haven't increased that much in value although, for obvious reasons, they'll wind up being more expensive than normal release Pop!s.

If you're trying to invest in collectibles to make money, it's probably not worth bothering unless you also like the collectibles themselves.

They do list them and typically these days most are bought up by scripts and ebay resellers. Mead is in Europe right? Bit different there.

Even going to a convention far from guarantees you can get one. My brother in law waited in a line for 24 hours last year just to get a chance to get one of the SDCC exclusives, and they still ran out of tickets before they got to him. Ruined his whole weekend.

Never liked these pop figures.. they look too cheap and also look creepy. I'm more a resin statue or higher end pvc figure guy. I also much prefer amiibo figures to pops. I haven't bought a single pop yet and probably will never. I don't see long term interest in them and values will bomb one day in the near future.

A lot of the figures look like they're listed at MSRP, though. Not sure how you expect to do less than MSRP at retail. Are you planning on stealing them?

While I'm not a big fan of the Pop! style, they do a lot of off-style stuff that looks reasonably nice. As for Amiibo, most don't look that great up close. Sure, they have fewer QC issues than Disney Infinity or Skylanders (which have neat designs but atrocious QC), but the designs just kinda suck. Which is lame because I wanted something like it for ages only for it to be a colossal disappointment.

The long term interest is just because they're collectibles...
