That's where the bands were. Other land was taken for cities and other places and it's not going to be given back. And these reservations are often close to where tribal land had been, if not on the land. You will not see reservations pop up in cities here. That said, requiring FN peoples to live on reservations to receive any kind of benefit is pretty fucked up. It traps people in the system of poverty and substance abuse. These locations are not near work or education opportunities, they often lack basic necessities like clean water or access to health care. And that is true in the U.S. as well.
