Because as a result of the walkouts yesterday, I've seen a... LARGE number of conservative people on social media post some variant on this:

"Instead of walking out of your school and skipping class, why don't the children just talk to the creepy scary loners and convince them through kindness not to shoot up a school?"

I'm paraphrasing, of course, but there have been SO many of these that I think it's a little out there to suggest that all these folks came to this realization all at once when I hadn't seen boo about it until the walkouts.

I mean, forget that this idea sets a worrying precedent. Basically it's putting the onus for shootings not happening on the students. The next time a shooting happens, the narrative then becomes, "well kids, why didn't YOU do something to prevent this?"

It IS a good thing, but that's not at the root of the problem here.

The main problems are that this kid had a troubled home life that was well documented with police, had been reported to the police, managed to purchase a gun despite his mental and familial troubles, and then killed fellow kids.

If others bullied him and it was allowed to go on, that's just another failure on the part of the adults in this community. A school shooting like this is indicative of society breaking down on every level

I don't think there is a single root of this problem. But I do think that social isolation could be a part of it. And I'm sure you do too.
