I'm at about 370 or 380 Power Moons. Long ago it became something of a chore. I've never really felt this was with a 3D Mario before (apart from 3D World, obviously). I tore through Galaxy 1 and 2, had a superb time on 64, and when I got used to the gameplay style of Sunshine, had a lot of fun doing extra stuff in that too (although I never quite 100%ed it). Oddysey, though...the seemingly endless Power Moons to collect, 70 or 80 a level (I thought 11 Shines a level in Sunshine was a lot), the fact that some are so well hidden, coming back to the some worlds again and again. It's a shame, because the main game in Oddysey is great, some brilliant worlds and lots of fun gameplay, but a fairly short while after I started on the extra stuff, I didn't really enjoy it anymore.

How do other people feel about the design of Oddysey, and 100%ing it? The professional reviews thought it was wonderful, close to a top tier game, if not a top tier game.

That's because Nintendo thought it would be good to base the game on 90s game design. You know, instead of innovating?

I think the game would have been a lot better with 300-400 or even 500 stars, but they just went way too overboard.

Part of the fun of Mario games has always been 100% it, but this one is just a chore

Make it long, you mean? But those games weren't usually chores. They went too far with this.

It's actually a bit like Rayman: Legends. That went on and on. I did get all 700 Teensies, though, and many of the gold medals and trophies. Grinding for 1,000,000 lumas was ridiculous.

I haven't 100%'d it yet but I do have 2 files with most of the moons gotten. It's my personal favorite 3D Mario game.

It is and should be optional.
Like BOTW seeds. There is far more then neccesary to complete the game.
