I've heard a different amount of miles from different people. When do you change the oil?

~3000 miles or so. Could probably let it go longer but I like how much smoother it feels after an oil change.

That is a massive, unnecessary waste of money. Oil usually doesn't need to be changed until around 15k miles.

About every 4,000. I like to have my mechanic look at my car and rotate the tires (which is free, by the way, because it's already on the lift).

Also, synthetic oil is only a couple bucks more than conventional, but they charge people twice as much because people think it costs twice as much. $31 for a synthetic oil change for my whip.

Depends on the oil.

Synthetic oil can probably go for about that long but conventional oil needs to be changed every 3000. It can TECHNICALLY go longer but it's your choice if you want to wear out your multi-thousand dollar piece of machinery faster or not.

You can do an oil change for $25, so it's not a "massive" waste of money, and even if the benefit from more frequent oil changes is small, it's still worth it given that an ENGINE change will run you ~$7,500.

I haven't driven a car from this decade so maybe that's changed.

This.

My car is a 2003, and I've put on 230k miles on it, and I change the oil only once every 5k miles or so and it's still running really strong. No issue with leaks or faulty gaskets or anything.

Way to jinx it.

Between 6000 and 8000 miles or when my car tells me the oil life is a low percentage.

I use fully synthetic because I read it should be used when the car has a turbo.

Yes, it is a waste. Changing your oil 5x more than you need to is ridiculous.
