Are humans going extinct?

In the games you have like 10 people living in most towns at most. Sure you do have cities, but at their size you can fit a few thousand at most. So how many humans are actually alive in the Pokemon universe? A few hundred thousand at most? Probably less...

This could probably be said about most 2D JRPGs. A village consists of less than 15 people most of the time and only half of them have anything good to say.

In the Shin Megami Tensei universe it makes sense, since most of the games take place during the apocalypse

There's the theory that the original games take place after a major war, but it doesn't exactly have a lot going for it. All it has is that the player has no father and Lt. Surge did fight in a war at some point.
