I'm doing research on the link between violent media and aggression, and apparently the evidence is pretty ubiquitous that exposure to violent media increases aggress, even after you control for other factors and initial levels of aggression.

Not to say that it accounts for violence in any significant way, but I've heard for the longest time that the idea that there's any link between violent media and aggression is not only wrong, but stupid.

And yet all the evidence I'm looking at shows a link.

What the fuck, mate?

Have you looked at the research?

I've only read that short term aggression increases, but if you give a short cooling off period it disappears.

The idea of the Columbine guys planning out that shooting because of Doom and Marilyn Manson is still 100% debunked.

Yeah that latter part seems to be true but the fact that any link exists is surprising to me at all because all I've heard for the last 10 years is that no link exists. I also see studies showing a correlation between the amount of violent TV consumed at age 8 and aggressiveness at age 30 that persists even after controlling for other variables, so that's new to me too
