that

was

amazing.

i liked doctor strange a lot. i REALLY liked civil war (despite all the things i complained about in the thread about it).

this one blows both of those out of the water.

this is possibly top 3 MCU. Still not Winter Soldier #1, but a strong contender for #2. i can't really think of anything to complain about, everything was so good. keaton as vulture is A++++++++++ and the twist and everything about his relationship with spidey at the end makes him way more interesting than 99% of the other Marvel villains.

I always thought spidey had a more personal, intimate relationship with his villains compared to other superheroes, and i'm glad this movie kept that up.

really, nothing to complain about the movie at all. perfect pacing, great action, best spidey so far (tom holland was a perfect casting choice, wow), and a villain that you actually kind of like and almost respect. the cameos weren't overdone but still place spidey right in the middle of a world of the avengers. the surprise pepper moment was perfect, and that entire bit at the end was great.

honestly 10/10

Spiderman is great and all, but holy hell the guy should not be able to win some of the fights he wins. Him and Batman have some of the most blatant plot armor in history.

Bat-God is canon. Just accept it and move on. It's been that way since 1997.

It just felt like a standard superhero movie. Pretty good, just not great like a lot of people said it was. The story, the fights, the quips and funny lines all seemed rote by the time I watched it. The only major criticism I had was with the action scenes. There's wasn't one real good scene that I felt was great, even the climax with the plane felt pretty standard, which I found disappointing since I though Spider-Man's unique powers could have been in much more interesting ways.

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with it, but I didn't feel like it was the best of the MCU.

I care almost zero about Spider Man as a superhero. The fucking nerd hero worship he gets is so baffling to me.

Tom Holland's Spider Man in Civil War and Infinity War have sold me on seeing this movie though. That's how good he's been.

i guess i see your point about the action, but he's not supposed to be a trained superhero who just does things because he's got a suit on. he's learning. i think the movie would have felt like a standard superhero movie if he DID kick ass and know exactly what to do all the time.

homecoming is amazing

like I didn't hate the previous spider-man movies or anything and thought they get too much hate but after watching homecoming I had no idea I could actually enjoy a spider-man movie legit, it's a completely different feeling

Tom Holland is the perfect casting of Spider-Man, no question about it

Gotta go with Grand Kirby here. Movie was fine but too formulaic imo. I don't really see it as an all-time great by any standard (which is a shame, because the original Spider-Man 2 definitely is).

Didn't help that it came out just after Logan and Wonder Woman, both of which had their own unique voices and styles and both of which were vastly superior spider-man

I find it kind of an absolutely perfect popcorn flick. I do feel the movie peaks with Spidey being Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man until the relationship with him and Vulture is fully developed, but what I love about the movie is its small scale and the intimacy of the cast. What's done isn't exceptional, but how it's performed, the little things Holland does to flesh out the character, the interactions he has - it all feels organic. That's what I love about and take away from this movie, and it overshadows the "going through the motions" stuff for me because it's fun. Like it's not a clever Spider-Man movie, but damn I love Spider-Man in this more than any other movie what has Spider-Man.

Makes me want a movie with Kingpin and Spidey taking on local crime all the more. Guys on the city level work wonders for Spidey.

Is this a joke topic? That was maybe the worst Marvel movie I've ever seen. I just saw it as well for the first time last weekend and almost stopped watching it after 15 minutes in. The whole video diary opening was just super cringy. We stuck it out and the movie got slightly more watchable, but eventually, shortly after the DC elevator rescue, we just stopped watching. It was just too bad to continue watching. The main character was annoying. Very whiny. And his friend that finds out he's spiderman was even more annoying. The "bully" or whatever you want to call him was so over the top and ridiculous. I can't imagine anyone seriously considering this a top tier Marvel film.

how about some explanation of any of those points beyond "they were annoying"

I'm totally interested to see why people didn't like it, but your post has about as much substance as you seem to imply this movie did.

also, worst mcu? worse than thor 2? hulk? and i like cap1, thor1, and avengers1 a lot, but they're pretty flawed too.

and if there ever was a movie of "i felt nothing," i honestly think that complaint should go to avengers 1.

am I supposed to explain how they were annoying? all Peter did every other line was whine about how the Avengers werent calling him. That guy who was supposed to keep tabs on him I guess was supposed to be some comedic hate my job kinda guy. I'll be honest, he got me laughing at first, but the joke gets old after a while. We get it, you think keeping tabs on the kid is annoying.

His friend....do I even need to give a reason for why this guy is annoying? Ohhh maaan, you're spider mannn...sooo coool....let me gush about this the rest of the movie...

And the bully. look. I understand bullies are an overplayed trope in many movies. But this bully was just way too over the top. I felt like I was watching a middle school movie, except all the characters were in high schoolers bodies.

The plot line was interesting enough to stay tuned initially, but the characters and their awkwardness and general annoyance just ruined it for me and those watching. Maybe the movie really picks up in the second half or second third or however much time was left in the movie after we quit watching, but we just had no interest in continuing watching it (I watched this with two other people).

I usually don't just lurk around and bash things other people like because, hey, we all have different opinions, and that's great. I was just so taken aback, after just seeing the movie for the first time myself, to see someone post a topic having just seen the movie themselves, and have the exact opposite reaction.
