You get graded based on how well you discussed the book. On one hand, it does help in making us better at applying literature to our daily lives. On the other, it can be seen as weird. She also made us read the Bible. Not religiously but because you need to understand the Bible to understand a lot of American literature. In 2nd grade students who did all their homework for the year got to go to minigolf with the teacher. That was fun. I think there were 6 of us.
