play how you wanna play, imo
they give you the option to save, so use it if you want. if you want to play 'classic', theres nothing stopping you from completely ignoring the save functionality. --- Disclaimer: There's a good chance the above post could be sarcasm. Sure.
It's not like those games are anywhere near as hard as people desperately want them to be. Yellow Devil and Wily were tough in 1 but other than that the only real challenge to be found is if you're the type that expects to win on your first try, which is more a stylistic thing than a difficulty one.
