A few things could have made the movie far and away the best Star Wars movie.

1 - Get Rid of Holdo, have Leia fill that role and sacrifice herself.

2 - Make the space chase way more compelling. The low-speed pursuit was lame as shit.

3 - Completely rework the casino part and have them infiltrate an imperial prison or something to free the code breaker. Then we don't have the goofy CGI fest and the stakes are higher.

4 - Have Hux not be the butt of jokes. He need a strong First Order, not two "leaders" constantly bitching at each other.

5 - If Leia Poppins stays in, execute the scene better.

7 - Less Disney comedy undercutting serious moments.

6 - The Throne Room fight was one of the best scenes in the series and the point at which it should have completely flipped the script. Kylo made a compelling case for Rey to join him on the Dark Side, which she had already jumped to without hesitation on the Island. With that foreshadowed, she should have accepted his offer. This makes the middle act of the trilogy a serious low point for the heroes. Then Ep IX is Kylo realizing that she has gone too dark and he is terrified of the monster he created and the retribution arc is then having to save her from the Dark Side rather than the other way around.

7. Have Luke's last stand be a little bit more impressive. It was a great scene, and powerful in meaning. But just merely for projecting being the hardest thing a Jedi can do is kind of lame. I would have liked to have seen a few walkers get crushed from seemingly nothing after they fired on him then he has his showdown with Kylo.

It's bad.
