iyo why is it so important to test other people and act hard?

does it feel ever feel alienating growing up around that?

FAT JOE: It is to be hard. Everybody wants to be hard. This is one of the things I told you, one of the flaws in being from the hood. Everybody wants to be hard. You know what Im saying? And its like that. Forget Fat Joe, because you see other people just grab the mic, and they transform into a whole different person. And when they walking around the club, Im wondering why we cant just walk around and smile at each other? Were all there to do the same thing, have a nice time partying, get drunk and enjoy the music, but we all looking at everybody like... And this be writers, journalists like you, you know. It would be good people working who be up in the club like... Its something. I dont even know. I cant answer that.

as an outsider i see this behavior and want to judge/cringe because machoism is mainly antiquated in my culture and not too useful outside of grade school, but i'd rather understand it better and get your take on it.

I saw this a lot. I just minded my own business and turned out alright. But usually it's an ego thing. "I'm tougher than you and I'll prove it." Saw a lot of ass whippings growing up.
