Haven't played in years and I want to pick it back up but I completely forgot where I'm at

It starts from the last save.
You can check with the headstones in the hunter's dream on what you've unlocked.

Check the second, third and fourth headstone and post what names are there.
If there are none, check the first one at the bottom and check if you've gotten to cathedral ward at least

Just so you know when it say boss area, it's the lamp you get after beating the boss so if you just wanna post what ones you have that are boss areas that'll work too

Top headstone = none
Second top = Hypogean Gaol
Third top = Hemwick Charnel lane, Witch's Abode, Forbidden Woods

Okay so the Gaol is a bit of a later area. You got there being killed by the snatchers (tall skinny dudes with sacks). You can continue there if you want. It's not overly difficult but other than the boss opening a shortcut and a neat arcane weapon (tonitrus) there's not really much there. Though beating the boss, Paarl, does let you buy an item to buff your weapon with bolt damage since some bosses are weak to it, might be useful.

So you have a few options. First I'd make sure BloodStarved Beast is killed which I'm assuming you did kill him. You can check if you have the church of the good chalice lamp or if you have Pthumeru Chalice in your inventory, scroll left, it's a key item or under one of the other sections, not the consumable items.

If so, you can start going to chalice dungeons which are optional.

In either case, you killed the witches and you can possibly kill Vicar Amelia now in the Grand Cathedral (it's in cathedral ward, up a long flight of stairs inside the two large doors) who isn't optional btw, you gotta fight her.

You can also progress through Forbidden Woods (please find the shortcuts, the boss is insanely hard), again not optional.

There are two other optional side areas cainhurst castle (pretty lategame but totally optional) and the back of Isoefka's clinic (Gotta go there to get to cainhurst since there is an item there that you need). You pick up the summons and go to hemwick lane again and there's like a giant stone obelisk type deal, go there and a cutscene plays and you can go to the castle.
I have no idea if it's a glitch or not but in the clinic when you return make sure you kill every enemy inside it. I've had the door close on me learning to where you wake up if you don't
There's also a shortcut around the area that opens the gate near the start too so get that also in case you die to one of the enemies in the clinic.

your sky is probably normal night with white moon, you gotta finsh the woods and get into the school by the lake, just keep going trough the woods and you'll be fine.
