says our district manager

According to him, people will respond better if you take the choice out of their hands. He even went as far as seriously suggesting not finishing a transaction until a patient agrees to a flu shot. I almost feel like someone should complain about this fucker.

Never work retail pharmacy if you can avoid it, kids. I'm just biding my time.

Someone's benefiting. Probably not hockeybub.

Flu shots are not worth the risk unless you belong to a group that getting the flu would lead to a high chance of death.

I've never gotten the shot and haven't had the flu in 10 years. Some co-workers around me take it and have gotten sick for several days immediately after taking the shot or just contracted the flu several months later anyway. Though very rare, the flu shot can actually cause paralysis. Not worth it, at least not to me.

yep unless you just happen to get that one strain they are pretty pointless, even hospitals don't force their employees to get one

Where were you last season where people were dropping left and right?

Nobody has to get a flu shot, but it's a winning gamble every time.

Then again, nobody actually cares for the reason behind it, until they get fucked by one.

Also, your boss sounds like a mad asshole.

Not true, where I work you either get it or you can sign a declination form and wear an obnoxious face mask that you have to swap out every 2 or 3 hours.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure getting shots/vaccines lowers your immune system.

I've gotten sick after every single vaccine I have ever taken. Like violently sick.

It was worth it for meningitis and other bad diseases, but the flu is constantly changing.

It's a waste of time and money

I too work in the hospital sector, and it's not mandatory. Most people are in contact with a multitude of diseases on a daily basis and you either develop a strong immunity or you don't. A flu shot is essentially an injection that ensures you're going to get sick.

That being said, I've been vacinated against pretty much everything else. Fuck the flu.

No. vaccines are meant to annoy your immune system, as a sort of "i'm not touching you! i'm not touching you!" taunt, just short of getting slapped, with the expectation that an actual virus actually poking at it will get backhanded promptly and soundly.

If you got sick from the shot, it means your immune system slapped the vaccine anyway.

A vaccine is a decommissioned virus and it forces your body to make antibodies so they can combat the actual virus.

Thats why you can get sick after getting a vaccine because your body thinks its under attack.

I don't get bad reactions as such, but I agree with the general sentiment - it's a waste of time for things like the flu, but a good idea for the more serious (and more importantly, less mutation-prone) stuff.

Yeah, It's ridiculous. Everyone is making sure to ask every patient, but I absolutely do not feel comfortable framing it as a request. It's inappropriate.

If I ever get told to get one, I will immediately demand to speak to the manager and I will have words. Not loud words, threatening words, rude words or angry words... but blunt words, stern words and forceful words. My immune system is a trillion-soldier elite special forces army and a flu shot would be a ragtag group of misfits that barely passed basic training... in real life, not the movies or TV where they somehow become the heroes. They should make better flu shots from me somehow... however that whole process works.

Flu shots have like a 20-30% efficacy rate. My mom is an RN and even she says the flu shot is bullshit. Not because of the dreaded mercury or the autism it causes /s, but because it barely even works and usually makes people sick, to the point where I believe you're more likely to get sick and still get the flu than you are to be truly vaccinated against the flu.
