"It has done good in history and some people flock to it to get through life"

I never understood that argument.

If religion can be easily replaced with something else to justify why bad things are done, then couldn't it also be easily replaced with something else to justify good things? Doesn't that make religion pointless?

At least maybe something else would be based more in reality. And that something else would need to have an organized structure and accumulate a wealth of power to match the influence of organized religions, so "anything" wouldn't be just the same. We don't need to abolish religion, just strip it of power. If you want to believe in a higher power on your own, do your thing. We already have enough conflict in this world. Organized religion is no longer providing anything uniquely good in the world, but there is some bad that would disappear without it.

I think the premise is that people are naturally predisposed to do bad things, so it doesn't matter what excuse they use, whereas people aren't naturally predisposed to do good things.

That's just blatantly false. Humans have been working together for the common good for thousands of years, far, far into prehistory.
