i knew a few of these people back then. they worked for verizon and were friends. they would often go on about how great the latest blackberry was/how the trackball and physical keyboard was superior to that stupid iphone keyboard. they were convinced it was the superior addition to their flashy new google device as well, like 100% sure that this was the future.

of course i mean they were dead wrong about that. about as wrong as apple was with the small screens thing. but whatever, did you know any people like this? were you one of them?

yeah, they were. sometimes i like to wonder what it would be like if all this stuff actually became the future. like what if they weren't wrong? would there be really dope gadgety trackballs/mouse interfaces and innovative fold out physical keyboards all over?

i think it was just too gadgety for the regular consumer, everyone admires simplicity.

It was a nice idea, but it simply wasn't practical. It adds too much to the device's size. It could perhaps work as a slide-out keyboard, but even then, the size of the keys would make it a bit tricky.

I do think building gamepads into high-end phones is reasonable, though. Preferably slide-out; the Sony Xperia Play looked like it got in-phone gamepad more or less as close to perfect as is reasonably possible - if an updated model of that (with proper support for the local networks) came out, it'd convince me to move away from Meizu. Unless Meizu released a similar phone themself, I guess.
