I'd say the British SAS. Those people are tough and scary, very scary.

There are some good runners-up, though. The American Marines, the Russian Spetznaz.

Depends on what the minimum size limit of "group" is. All the top-rate militaries have exceptional individual squads that are equipped with the best technology but different objectives. If we're going to identify the single most effective and versatile, though, it's probably the U.S.'s DEVGRU Seal Team 6, mostly because of their quite literally unlimited resources, unparalleled breadth of instruction, and unrestricted degree of operational range and flexibility.

I worked with SEAL teams a few times, mostly with Team 10, and there isn't anything spectacular about them except for maybe team 6.

As the other guy said it depends on your definition of group. If we are talking about individual units its likely: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special_Activities_Division (SAD/SOG)

If your talking actual branches of the military then its either the Army or Navy of the US.
