...set in East Germany, but hardly ever West Germany? Of course, the worst a country is, the better fodder it is for a writer / screenplay writer / playwright / teleplay writer.

The thing about West Germany is, it was just another European state, with democracy, Western values, etc. so if you're going to do a story set in mid to late 20th century "free" Europe, you can just as easily put it in Britain, France or Spain, etc. I like how the East German politicians said how the Berlin Wall was to keep out the Westerners, and protect East Germans, when it was clearly designed to keep their own citizens in. --- It has been 0 days since something interesting happened.
