Sure. But that's not as common as stories just set in East Germany, in my opinion.

The thing about West Germany is, it was just another European state, with democracy, Western values, etc. so if you're going to do a story set in mid to late 20th century "free" Europe, you can just as easily put it in Britain, France or Spain, etc.

I like how the East German politicians said how the Berlin Wall was to keep out the Westerners, and protect East Germans, when it was clearly designed to keep their own citizens in.
